Getting To Know Your Cyclamen

This hardy plant can and will bloom outdoors in the winter, or can survive indoors. The flowers will even show up in freezes and snow conditions. She comes in many colors with beautiful, heart-shaped, variegated green foliage. In late February and March you can cut the flowers off to make an attractive flower display to show off before they start to hibernate. Once in hibernation, stop watering and place in a dark spot for two months. After her dormant period, soak her soil for an hour and continue to water one time a week. Try not to rustle her tubular roots excessively. During her growing seasons she will want to be fed at least one time a month and likes slightly acidic soil. Pour any leftover coffee in her pot to water her. Clear out any dead foliage by snipping off dead leaves and she will start producing leaves again.
